Thanks for sharing this Tyler. This is great.
I have to admit my own divided feelings about the Olympics. On the one hand, it’s a showcase for commercialism, jingoism, and probably alot of doped athletes.
On the other hand, there are inspirational stories scattered through the Games, ones such as this one. And it is an entertaining show.
      Where do others stand?

Thanks for posting this article, Tyler. I’ve enjoyed reading every article about Lopez Lomong’s history. And I’m proud that we have such an enthusiastic, proud ambassador at these Games. Since I’ve never attended the Olympics, I can’t speak for the commercialisim. I only know that I appreciate every second of TV time that I get.

I’m looking forward to the kickoff of all the T&F events at the Olympics, starting Friday with round 1 of the men’s 1500m, the FINAL of the women’s 10,000 (I just read an article about Shalane’s food poisoning on Tuesday), and first round of the men’s 100m.

I love the Olympics. I will agree with Marc that there is a lot of commercialism and I can’t say I’m a fan of the McDonald’s commercials and maybe for us it’s a little different because we are considered “elite” athletes that have the ability or dream to go to these games, so it’s a bit closer to home for us to watch the athletes

BUT as one of my coworkers said “it’s the BEST real reality TV. You can’t beat that.”

oh and I like to think there are some athletes out there (and yes, those winning golds or silvers or bronze medals) that are clean because those that make their life soley eat, sleep, sport I believe can achieve amazing things without doping…they’re out there, even if they might only be 13 or 14 years of age….
